You are invited to a Panel Discussion “Can the Catholic Church Continue in its Present Form?”

Panellists: Adv Mike Pothier, Miss Venessa Padayachee, & Prof Brian Robertson
Mike Pothier is advocate of the High Court and Programme Manager of the Catholic Parliamentary Liaison Office
Venessa Padayachee, Special projects & Advocacy and Lobbying, National Institute for Crime Prevention and the Reintegration of Offenders (NICRO)
Brian Robertson is Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry and Mental Health at the University of Cape Town
The panel will be chaired by John O’Leary, Attorney and Mediator

Following the previous panel discussion about the sexual abuse of children and women by clergy, the failure of enforced celibacy, and the revelations about the abuse of power by the gay lobby in the Vatican, the panel will consider what it will take to heal the Church. Will putting more effective child safeguarding policies in place be sufficient or will a radical transformation be required? The panel will discuss the root causes of the Church’s dysfunction and examine the premise that an institutional culture has replaced a loving relationship with Jesus and with each other. Suggestions will be put forward as to what we can do to bring about a healthier Church, and one which is not afraid of diverse expressions of faith

Venue: CK Storey Hall, behind the Methodist Church, Main Road, Rosebank, Cape Town. Entrance and parking via Chapel Road
